Chuncho/Ch'unchu (Quechua meaning "native of the forest")

These rare cacao beans are cultivated with care along the Urubamba valley, Peru. It is arguably one of the original varieties (if not "the" original) and holds true heirloom genetics - in that it hasn't been artificially hybridized over the years.

The Chuncho cacao beans we use are from ancient trees that are up to 200 years old and are still producing beautiful aromatic cacao beans.

Cacao is a gentle plant medicine that has been used ceremonially throughout history by the Mayans and other indigenous tribes. Weaving itself far and wide from lush forests to grand mountainous elevations through Central and South America.

When prepared with intention and sacred setting cacao offers an experience of healing. Elevating and nourishing our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Ingredients: *Stoneground cacao beans

Recommended serving + notes

For a ceremony, between 15-40g can be consumed per person.

As mentioned in the other pages - a personal cacao meditation is a beautiful way to enjoy cacao.

The simplest way to prepare cacao is:

  • Weigh 15-40g of cacao into your favorite mug

  • Pour boiling water over the cacao

  • Stir with a teaspoon to dissolve the cacao

  • Take a moment to give gratitude to the cacao plant

  • Relax. Breathe. Smile and enjoy your experience ❤

Drinking cacao can also be made with a variety of nut milk (cashew, almond, and coconut are just a few). Just gently heat the milk in a pan, once the milk begins steaming add the cacao, whisk away until dissolved, and pour into your mug once it has reached your desired drinking temperature.

Notes

All dosages have their own unique experience and are sure to offer their own flair of magic however higher dosages of 40g and above are the traditional “ceremonial” dosages.

These higher dosages should not be consumed every day as it can become taxing on our energy and physical system. Ceremonial dosages should ideally be kept for ceremonies - a few times a month maximum and ensuring “time off” to integrate and allow the body the rest is essential.

Drinking plenty of water after drinking cacao is recommended as cacao can dehydrate the body - especially when dancing !!

I always advocate having “a healthy relationship with cacao” as too much of a good thing has the opposite effect.

Listening to your intuition and your body is the best indicator ❤
